iXBRL accounts software, with no tagging to do
Your accounts and tax computation are produced in iXBRL from your books. Preview them as they’ll be filed, then send them to Companies House and HMRC.
Free to get started, including filing. No card required.

How the iXBRL is produced
Tagged as they’re produced
The accounts and the tax computation are built in iXBRL from the books. There’s no separate tagging step and no second tool.
A preview before you file
See the iXBRL accounts as they’ll be filed. On a Company Tax Return, preview the computation and the XML HMRC will receive too.
Accounts for both filings
The accounts for Companies House and the accounts sent with the CT600 come from the same books. Each is its own filing.
Notes included
The notes to the accounts are generated from the books and filed with them.
From the books to tagged accounts
Choose the type of accounts
At the year end, choose micro-entity, small, full, audited or dormant accounts. A4O Accounts builds them from the books, notes included.
Preview the iXBRL
Read the accounts as Companies House or HMRC will receive them. Adjust the filing and rebuild if something’s wrong.
File
Send a test submission, then file. The accounts go to Companies House, and the CT600 goes to HMRC with its accounts and computation.

See the iXBRL preview in the app
Twenty seconds on a demo company: the accounts as Companies House will receive them.
What it doesn’t do
A4O Accounts isn’t a standalone tagging tool.
Tagging accounts prepared elsewhere
You can’t upload a Word, Excel or PDF set of accounts to be tagged. The iXBRL is produced from the books in A4O Accounts.
Group and consolidated accounts
Group accounts with intra-group eliminations aren’t supported.
Choosing tags by hand
There’s no tag editor. The tagging follows the type of accounts you choose.
How we look after your data
Your HMRC password isn’t kept
When you file a Corporation Tax return, your Government Gateway password is used for that submission and never stored. The copy of each submission we keep has the credentials removed.
Sensitive details are encrypted
Companies House authentication codes and HMRC and bank access tokens are encrypted in our database with AES-256-GCM. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, and repeated failed sign-ins lock the account.
Every filing is logged
Each submission, and each change to key records, is logged with who made it and when, and the app has no way to edit or delete those records. Only a Manager on the company can submit a filing.
What it costs
Create an account, add your company and file for real, with no card and nothing to pay. If we ever introduce paid plans, we’ll tell you at least 30 days before anything changes.
Questions about iXBRL
What is iXBRL?
Inline XBRL is a format for accounts that reads like a normal document and also carries tags a computer can read, so HMRC’s and Companies House’s systems can pick out each figure.
Who needs iXBRL accounts?
Every company filing a Company Tax Return with HMRC: the accounts and tax computation that go with the CT600 have to be in iXBRL. From April 2028, Companies House will also require accounts to be filed in iXBRL using commercial software.
Do I have to tag anything myself?
No. The accounts and computation are tagged as A4O Accounts produces them. You check the figures and the preview.
Can I upload my own accounts to be converted to iXBRL?
No. A4O Accounts produces iXBRL from the books you keep in it. It doesn’t convert Word, Excel or PDF accounts prepared elsewhere.
How much does it cost?
Nothing to get started, including filing, and you don’t need a card. If we ever introduce paid plans, we’ll tell you at least 30 days before anything changes.
Can I see the iXBRL before filing?
Yes. Preview the accounts as they’ll be filed, and send a test submission to Companies House or HMRC before filing for real.
